Georg Lukács
Lukács argued that the pillars of western society blinded the populous to their true innate Marxist interests. before a Marxist revolution could take place, western culture had to be destroyed. In Hungary 1919 as Deputy Commissar of Culture,launched a program of cultural terrorism. He launched a program of radical sex education into the Hungarian schools. The intent was to undermine the unity of the family. Hungarian children were instructed in free love, sexual intercourse, the archaic nature of middle-class family codes, the out-datedness of monogamy, and the irrelevance of religion, which deprives man of all pleasures. Women, too, were called to rebel against the sexual mores of the time. Lukacs’s campaign of “Cultural Terrorism” was a precursor to what Political Correctness would later bring to American schools.

The words roll so trippingly from the keyboard, to paraphrase Shakespeare. "Western culture to be destroyed." "Cultural terrorism." "Radical sex education." "Destroy the family."
ReplyDeleteThey all seem to have an increasing popularity among today's political rightwing based in the Republican Party.
Yet for all the importance that they're given on the web and blogosphere they're rarely if ever backed by anything other than a writer's rant and the republican of the rants of others.
Lukacs stated that Western culture had to be destroyed? Really? Where? Absent a real answer to the last question one is really driven to conclude that you and others simply invented the claim;
He was into what was called "cultural terrorism?" And the evidence is....? Or, about the charges of all sorts of sexually nefarious activity involving children in 1919, where exactly are the documents you use to justify this claim?
Ditto the "destruction" of the family.
One sense's that all these claims are invented by a group of people who wants to neither announce their real program nor to fight for it. Instead they seek to whip up a social hysteria with an utterly phoney propaganda campaign.
But beyond that, one senses that the Republican punsters don't really have strong principles, no matter what they say, and are really quite lazy. How else is one to explain their burning desire to inform the public of key facts coupled with their utter indifference to defend their assertions when, as here, attacked.

ReplyDeleteHaving just read about Lukács for the first time today, I found this blog whilst myself trying to find additional sources. Fifteen minutes on Google Books allowed me to find the three books listed at the end of this comment as sources you can read confirming quotes from without even having to go to the library. I would like to point out that your post is an ad hominem attack on the original poster. I don't know either of you and am not supporting anyone's agenda, but simply pointing out that you may want to give a rational argument rather than that type of character slur which is painfully typical of the political correctness being discussed. By the way, there is no 'Republican Party' in Canada.
